Gas detection is essential for the safety of personnel and for analytical purposes to ensure hazardous levels of gas are not present in the workplace.
Gases like methane and propane or vapours from flammable liquids can be measured in ppm, %LEL, and %Vol. well suited for the natural gas, solvent and paint industries, but other gases such as CO2 – Carbon Dioxide - as used in the, breweries, carbonated beverage bottling industry bring a different type of hazard. CO2 is not flammable and will not support combustion. As the concentration CO2 in air rises it can cause headaches, dizziness, confusion and loss of consciousness. Since CO2 is heavier than air, fatalities from asphyxiation have occurred when, at high concentrations, it has entered confined spaces such as tanks, sumps or cellars and displaced Oxygen. At room temperature and atmospheric pressure CO2 is a colourless and odourless gas and, because of this, people are unable to see it or smell it at elevated concentrations.
We can also detect low ppm levels to %Vol. measuring a wide range of VOC’s up to 5,000 ppm, depending on the gas and our equipment is ideal for allowing the checking of confined spaces, area monitoring and HazMat applications.
